What Sympact Means

We live in an era marked by transformational changes and these changes have radically reshaped everything around us—from how we communicate to how states govern. There are few parts of contemporary society that can rightfully claim to be immune from the turbulence often brought on by constant change and rapid transitions. Whether it’s first responders in crisis situations (e.g., natural disasters, medical epidemics, etc.), urban planners in metropolitan areas, or cyber-security professionals working in secrecy, collective action is now a necessary part of our professional and personal lives.

The pace and frequency of these disruptions are now being experienced globally. We live and we work in an inter-connected and inter-dependent world. Just as a new technological innovation (like Facebook or Uber) can sweep the world, so too can threats like terrorism, Ebola, and water scarcity. Life in an inter-connected and inter-dependent world requires people who are inclined to, and capable of, working with others to solve what are collective action challenges.
We can say from experience that action and impact truly do rest, disproportionately, on the quality of leadership on display, irrespective of the circumstances. Strategic planning, alone, can not solve the challenges that we face today. The world is growing too fast and becoming too complex for simple strategies or simple-mindedness. Unfortunately, we’ve seen more of this than give us comfort.
If you’re the head of a global multi-national enterprise, the leader of a major government entity, or a grassroots advocate working in a vulnerable community, there are relatively few places you can turn to solve this leadership crisis. Training programs that deal with cooperation and collaboration are often fragmented and under-developed, and the training that is available often does not stick. It’s, unfortunately, stale and ineffective. Furthermore, the training and the content in this area far too often fails to adequately prepare learners for the shifting terrain and the complex environments in which they are being forced to operate.
This business exists to help those whose livelihoods depend on their ability to act collectively with others.
That’s reflected in our name. Sympact means “to work together”.

We intend to leverage our core capabilities in strategic foresight, systems thinking, and human centered design to help our clients a) better understand the ecosystems in which they operate, b) anticipate the forces in the future that may disrupt those ecosystems, c) identify the preferred future scenarios that are worthy of pursuit, and d) prepare themselves (and others) today to effectively make the transitions that await them in the future.
